Using Technology to Succeed in Theological Study
This is a brief presentation that considers a range of software tools that can help theological students. It covers six broad areas: a) Backing Up & Files; b) Note-Taking; c) Writing; d) Research; e) Using the Bible; and f) Referencing. Whilst brief in detail, it might draw your attention to a few tools of value. Some of the topics (e.g., RSS, the iPad, eBooks, and Bible Applications) are covered more extensively in other posts. Great blog – all my interests are covered – coffee, theology and technology (although due to finances, I am a PC user).
Since moving from the Academy into Pastoral Ministry, I discovered “Logos” (www.logos.com) which has been a great resource, particularly when it comes to exegesis – I purchased the original languages edition, which has helped me reintroduce scripture to my congregation – which they seem to be appreciating, as it is reawakening in them a passion for God’s word.
Keep up the good work (both here and on Beanhunter) – Grace and Peace – Sae (nickname)
Thanks Sae! I’m happy to hear that I’m not the only person to share such a set of interests! Yes, I own logos on the Mac too and I do like it in many ways (I think they have some innovative features), although I still prefer Accordance for original language tools. Isn’t it great that there are so many good options! I’m excited to hear of what is happening with your congregation too. I’ll keep on eye on your blog
Out of interest – while you were studying in Durham, did you ever get to meet the great man – NT Wright? Or had he already moved on to his new position?
I appreciate his scholarship and insight in many areas.
Hi Sae – yes, got to meet Tom several times and hear him speak across a range of settings which was a real privilege. He announced his retirement whilst I was there, so it was good timing to be in Durham! I found him to be very humble and full of so much knowledge + wisdom.
